We are issuing a call for equipment during 2024 as part of the LabEx QuantAlps. This call is open to the entire scientific community, structured around five research axes:
Quantum Engineering & Hardware
Key Enabling Technologies
Quantum Matter
Quantum Information & Software
Humanities for Quantum Sciences
and 5 federative projects:
Quantum Computing
Quantum Communication
Quantum Simulation
Quantum Metrology & Sensing
New synergies
To build your project, it's essential to get in touch with members of the Scientific Advisory Board. Outside experts will help select one or more projects for a budget from €60,000 to €120,000. QuantAlps will contribute to the operating/maintenance budget, attributing around 5% of the initial budget per year, added to the equipment cost over the first three years.
A second call for equipment will be issued in 2025.
Selection Criteria:
Projects will be selected according to the following criteria:
Project quality and excellence
Quality (at international level) of the projects to be supported by the proposed equipment: scientific interest, relevance, feasibility.
Quality of the consortium involved.
Aim to development original instruments and prototypes
Synergy induced by the project: The collective nature of the use to be made of the equipment within the LabEx: opening up to several laboratories (or several teams in the same large laboratory), within one or more research axes or federative projects. And the resulting incentive to strengthen collaborations.
A ripple effect in the direction of another LabEx (Microelectronics, MAteriAlps, etc.), R&D labs (LETI, LITEN, Startup, etc.), healthcare or Grenoble's industrial sector.
Complementarity with existing facilities (specificity, accessibility, etc.), this facility has to be indispensable to the research community.
The justification for the requested funding is to achieve usable equipment without waiting for non-acquired co-fundings.
Submission Process
Projects are to be submitted in 2 stages:
A letter of intent, maximum one page, describing: the science, the equipment, the collective aspect within the LabEx, the ripple effect and identifying contacts within the QuantAlps scientific advisory board.
A complete project accompanied by the submission form (under the download title).
Projects will be selected according to the following schedule:
September 20, 2024: Announcement of the call for equipment.
October 31, 2024 : Deadline for submission of letter of intent.
1st week of November: exchanges and discussions between the project owner(s) and several members of the Scientific Advisory Board to help mature the project.
November 26, 2024 : Deadline for submission of equipment projects.
December 11, 2024 : Presentation of projects to the Scientific Advisory Board by project owners, followed by discussion. The Scientific Advisory Board will bring up new comments and suggestions. If this maturing phase has left too many projects in competition, the Scientific Advisory Board will make a preliminary selection of projects to be auditioned by external scientific experts (5 in number).
December 20, 2024: Deadline for submission of optimized projects following discussions with the Scientific Advisory Board.
February 2025: Oral presentation by the project owners to the scientific expert committee and the Scientific Advisory Board. Selection of projects by the expert committee.
April 2025: Announcement of results
