Foreign Visiting Scientists

Call for application: April 2nd - May 21st, 2026

Sponsorship for hosting foreign visiting scientists in a QuantAlps' member laboratory.

QuantAlps offers financial support to host foreign researchers for short visits in 2026, with the aim of fostering new or ongoing scientific collaborations, within our community's research themes.

Purpose of the visit

This funding is intended to support collaborative research activities and the development of joint research projects between the visiting scientist and their host laboratory.
Please note: Visits that are primarily for participation in an event (e.g., conference, school, or workshop) or where the scientist is only invited as a speaker are not eligible for this funding.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet the following conditions:
  •  Be a researcher currently holding a tenured position at an institution located outside France.
  •  The visit must be hosted by a laboratory affiliated with QuantAlps.
  •  The visit must be scheduled for 2026.

Funding details

  • QuantAlps sponsorship is designed to cover the costs of the mission including: travel, accommodation and meals.
  • Funding is provided for visits lasting between two weeks to one month, at a rate of €1,000 per week, up to a maximum of €4,000 per visit.
In addition, a separate grant may be awarded to support the organization of a scientific event during the visit (e.g., workshop, seminar, or course) that is open to the QuantAlps community. Any additional or exceeding costs must be covered by the host laboratory.

2 documents must be attached to the form in pdf format: a Curriculum Vitae of the visiting scientist and a research project description (1-2 pages) including: scientific objectives of the collaboration, plans for joint research with local collaborators, proposed visit dates, details of the public event to be organized.
In addition, a declaration of interest from local collaborators (an email confirmation is sufficient) has to be sent at quantalps-contact@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr.

Selection Process

  • Applications will be reviewed by the QuantAlps board of directors and results will be announced three weeks after the application deadline.
  • A letter will be sent notifying of the allocated amount and summarizing the joint obligations.
  • A lump sum will be sent to the hosting laboratory for travel arrangements, two to three months prior to the visit.

Expectations and deliverables

By accepting this funding, the visiting scientist and host laboratory commit to:
  • Carry out collaborative research activities with the local team during the visit
  • Organize a scientific event (e.g., workshop, seminar, or course) during the visit:
    • The event must be described in the submitted proposal.
    • Once confirmed, event details must be communicated to QuantAlps to allow for proper promotion on QuantAlps website and newsletter.
  • Acknowledging QuantAlps in all communication materials (slides, posters, announcements).
  • Submitting a short report (1-2 pages) within one month of the visit, summarizing the activities undertaken, outcomes achieved, and any future collaboration plans.

Application form

The information collected on this form (mandatory / optional) is subject to processing intended for the management and evaluation of applications for QuantAlps PhD mobility sponsorships. Please note that you can withdraw your consent any time.
The recipients of the data are: the QuantAlps coordination team and the internal selection committee.
The retention period of the information is limited to 5 years after the end of the funded mobility. The data will then be archived or destroyed in accordance with UGA's data retention policies.
