Title:
Design of Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) for a Photon-to-Digital Converter: structure, properties, characterization and 3D integration with a digital readout circuit.

Abstract:
I will present the work carried out by our team at the Université de Sherbrooke on Photon-to-Digital Converters (PDCs), i.e. arrays of Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPADs) in 3D integration on readout electronics.
In this first seminar, I will focus on SPAD design, properties and optimization, characterization methods, and on our work to increase sensitivity at short wavelengths (100-200 nm). Finally, I will present the SPAD control and readout circuits and introduce signal processing in an implementation dedicated to particle physics.

Title:
Signal processing onboard a Photon-to-Digital Converter (PDC): Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC), time binning and sorting, dark count filter and event time and energy estimator.

Abstract:
I will present the work carried out by our team at the Université de Sherbrooke on Photon-to-Digital Converters (PDCs), i.e. arrays of Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPADs) in 3D integration on readout electronics.
In this second seminar, I will discuss the use of Time-to-Digital Converters to time stamp photon detection events. I will set out the goal of achieving 10 ps time accuracy, particularly in medical imaging (PET and CT) and quantum key transmission (QKD). I will present the signal processing done on these time stamps and the challenges of large-scale matrixing.
